Grooms Speech Tips To Help You Through Your Wedding

If your big day is coming up then one of the important aspects of your wedding is the groom’s speech. Most people don’t like speaking in front of an audience in the first place so it’s normal if you might be a little nervous about how it’s all going to go down. There’s already so much pressure on your wedding day with things to get right and this just adds another thing to get right for a successful wedding.

If you have experience speaking in front of people then it might not be as tough as someone without. But considering this is a very important and special day, not only for you, but your wife, family and loved ones it’s not something to take lightly regardless of you experience.

A few things you might want to try to do to make your groom’s speech easier to handle is first of all put in some planning. The more prepared you are the easier it will be on the day you have to do it for real. Practice your speech like you would any big speech to that it becomes second nature.

Just like practicing a business pitch, a grooms’ speech will probably come across better when you’ve delivered the lines in privacy many times to memorize your lines and smooth out any rough spots. Once you can recite your speech in your head or perhaps in front of someone else with no problems or hiccups then you know you are most liked well prepared to deliver it for real in front of everyone at your wedding.

Bride and Groom Speeches – Correct Order Of The Speeches

During the wedding reception it falls to the father of the bride to kick off the speeches. His speech normally involves talking about his daughter, the (by now blushing) bride.

The father of the bride then usually hands over to the groom to make a speech, who makes it on behalf of the bride and himself. As he is making the speech on behalf of both of them he should start his speech with ‘My wife and I’. However more and more these days the bride opts to make her own speech.

Due to the fact that wedding audiences are a very diverse bunch they are considered a hard group to write for. The speech content, and especially any humor used, needs to be suitable for the very young and very old alike. The speech must not be offensive for any age, gender, or religion. This can be very difficult to get just right, and preventing the speech from sounding formulaic and cliché ridden requires a great deal of thought and planning.

Grooms speeches should be less serious than those of the father of the bride, while also being less humorous than that of the best man. It needs to fall somewhere between the two. It needs to be both functional and sincere but sprinkled with the appropriate amount of humor.

At the end of his speech the groom invites the maid of honor to make her speech, if she is making one that is. If the maid of honor is not making a speech then the groom should introduce the bridesmaid’s speech, again if there is one. Failing that the groom should invite the best man to make his speech, and then stand by to be suitably embarrassed!

Before my wedding came around I had been a guest at many friends’ weddings, where I witnessed some really good grooms speeches, and some rather bad ones that were very uncomfortable and embarrassing to watch. One was so bad that people were queuing to go to the toilet just to escape it.

I knew that I couldn’t let this happen at my wedding, and I was determined that my grooms speech would be as good as possible. To this end I trawled the web for information on how to write a good speech. I found a few golden nuggets, but the vast majority of information out there was pure rubbish to be honest.

I purchased a few book online and I was heartened to find that the quality was so much better. Not only were the speeches better written so that they flowed better, but there were some great ideas for content that I hadn’t have even thought of.

The books also contained sample speeches that I was able to mix and match, and because the speeches in each book were all written by the same author they blended together superbly. Contrast this with trying to put together a speech consisting of various passages gleaned from the internet from a variety of different contributors written in distinctly different styles.

Best Man Speech At Wedding – How To Make It The Very Best One

You’re the best man for your best friend and with that comes the privilege to give the “best” best man speech at wedding celebrations.  Your friend’s wedding is in four months.  And you’re not sure speech writing is the best of your abilities.  Enough already with all the “best”.  You are still coming to terms with him getting married and you guys not being able to hang out as you used to, but you also want the guy to be happy and if giving the best speech does the job, you’re up to it.

The next couple of months go by and the speech doesn’t even cross your mind; you’ve got plenty of time left to do it.  One day you hear something about wedding in a conversation and you remember.  You promise yourself to remember, even scribble something into your agenda.  You’re planning on writing one of those funny best man speeches at wedding receptions.  You misplace the agenda.

The next three weeks just seem to fly by and a feeling of pressure is settling in: you do still need to get something written down regarding best man speeches, at wedding receptions they are essential after all.  So you plan on sitting down on Saturday, after breakfast.  Good idea.  On Friday you get a call from your best friend.  He really needs some help with those boxes that still need to go the new apartment.  Sure, you’ll be there at eight the next morning and help out.  There was something you had planned for Saturday, but it couldn’t have been very important since you can’t seem to remember what it was.

Before you know it another week is gone, when picking up the potted palm trees for the reception it hits you right between the eyes: you still don’t have a single syllable for the best speech at weddings.  Now what are you to do?  It’s just a few days left to the wedding.

You don’t dare asking your other friends for advice.  Wouldn’t they have a field day with this?  So you finally get over yourself and go ask your dad.  Of course he’s happy to oblige and gives you enough pointers for three speeches at wedding celebrations.  You scribble them down, turn the page this way and that.  This can’t be that hard, can it now?  Hours later you run out of paper, you’re dazed and you still squat.  You lost the battle and are ready to surrender and wave the white flag.

Ehh, no, not yet.  You remember your mom had a book from way back when that had best man speeches at weddings examples, or was it groom’s?  Who cares?  You go digging for the book and yes, it’s still around and yes the speeches were for the groom.  — If this comes close to describing the last four months of your life, it’s time you made yourself a plan.

When you write best man wedding speeches you need a structure on which to build.  Make a list of the things you like best about your friend and also about the bride.  Also make a short list of a few good anecdotes from stuff you’ve been through together.  Funny is great, icky is to be avoided and always keep the bride’s feelings in mind (and with that also the grooms feelings and dignity).

When composing best man speeches, at wedding celebrations expressing your care for your friend and his bride always goes a long way, so start out shining a bright light on the couple and highlight what makes them the great couple they are.  Then you can do a flash back to when you got to know your friend and dig up some long forgotten anecdotes (again: keep it tasteful and funny).  Then you could go over the first moments in the couple’s relationship from your own perspective (stay with the official version).  Weave in the great things about your friend and also nice details about the bride.        Express your hopes for their future happiness, of which of course you will be an integral part and . . .  close with a witty toast.  Keep it short and too the point and you can’t miss

So here’s one structure you could use.  Fill it in with your experiences and you’ve got yourself a concise and structured speech.  One thing to keep in mind: When doing a best man speech, at wedding receptions never step on the toes of anyone present.  It would pour a bucket of cold water on the celebration and could put a dent into your friendship.  Stay on the bride’s good side and you will pave the way for a long lasting friendship with the both of them.

It’s your daughter’s special day, so make it that way. Craft that speech to touch on the special moments and memories of her life that you share. Let her know that you are proud of her accomplishments. Congratulate her and new new mate, and wish them the best.

#3 – Stand Tall, Speak Clearly, and Project Your Voice

When you deliver your speech, make sure you stand tall and straight. Speak clearly and project your voice, so everyone is able to hear you. Wedding Speech Tips

The wedding speech is essential to the occasion because it is an opportunity to let the speaker’s feelings be known to the bride and groom.  However, some people do not know how to make the proper wedding speech.

Here are some of the valued wedding speech tips that you can use to make your own speech without any outside help.

Wedding Speech Tips: The Main Message

First, you must know the exact message that you want to convey to the bride and groom.  Your speech should have a main theme.  Do you want to thank the couple for inviting you?  Do you want to let them know how you feel about the wedding?  It is important that you know what you want to talk about because it will allow you to remember the words that you want to say even if you do not memorize your speech word by word.

The second point is to remember the things, which you need to avoid during your speech.  Here is the list of the things that you should avoid while saying your speech:

Making Compromising Revelations

As a part of the wedding speech tips, you should avoid making compromising revelations during your speech.  By compromising revelations, we mean anything that can harm the reputation of the couple.  You should be careful while phrasing your words so that you may not inadvertently reveal pertinent information about the couple that gets them in trouble with their parents in the future.

Using Jokes with Extremely Sexual Connotation

Jokes of this kind should be reserved for private hearing only. You can make teasing remarks about the honeymoon or having lots of little children, but anything beyond that would be embarrassing for the couple and the people in the reception hall as well.

You should also avoid making your wedding speech when you are drunk.  Saying your wedding speech sober will help you choose the right words to say during that point.  You will also avoid embarrassing yourself in front of many people if you do this.

One of the wedding speech tips is that you should remember to write down the important points that you want to say on something inconspicuous.  If you find it hard to memorize your speech, which you would have, then you can write it down on a small piece of paper or on the palm of your hand. By doing this, you will have an easy access to your speech without having to memorize all the words.

Wedding Speech Tips: Additional Points

You should also remember to speak from your heart.  It is very important that you are able to say what you feel and feel what you say.  This way, you will be able to think of the appropriate words to use without putting much effort. These wedding speech tips will help you find the right words to say while standing in front of a large crowd.
